The record
County fire brigades kept light Land Rover appliances for the jobs the big pumps could not reach — grass and hill fires, farm incidents, rural roads — and Gwent, covering the valleys and hill farms of south-east Wales, ran this Series III 109 from 1982. It carries the standard light-appliance fit of the period: equipment lockers along the body sides, wire guards over the lamps, ladders and hose on the roof, blue lights and a siren of the old rotary kind.
After its brigade years it went to industrial use in the north-west of England, where recent MOT records show it did little in the last fifteen years, and latterly it has done the show circuit. The engine is the 2.25-litre petrol four — listed by the auction house as 2.3 litres — with manual gearbox and an indicated 31,307 miles, which the vendor believed but the auction house did not warrant. The interior gained a CD player at some point. Chassis SALLBCAH1AA166067; sold for £8,050 including premium and VAT.
