The record

This vehicle began life in 1986 as a standard MoD-specification Land Rover Ninety with the 2.5-litre diesel engine and served ten years in the British Army. In 1996 it was transferred to the rally team of the British Army Motoring Association (BAMA), the body that organises motorsport within the Army, becoming one of four rally-prepared Ninetys; this example carried the radio call sign 'Romeo Four'. The team was supported by sponsor Lex Leasing.

Rally preparation included a roll-over protection cage, white paintwork, rally seats, a custom Exmoor Trim hood, a simplified dash and wiring loom, a straight-through exhaust, a raised handbrake lever and driving lamps. The vehicle was pensioned out of service in 2005 and handed to the REME Corps Museum, where it remained until 2014 before passing to the Dunsfold Collection in Surrey (chassis SALLDVAC7AA261822).
