NSRI Richards Bay Camel Trophy Defender 110

Land Rover South Africa built the Defender 110s for the 1992 Camel Trophy and kept standby vehicles in the same sandglow yellow. One of these went to the National Sea Rescue Institute's Station 19 at Richards Bay, where it replaced an ageing Ford F250 as the station's response vehicle — the one that got crew and gear to callouts along the beaches north and south of the harbour and carried volunteers to training — and stayed in that role for nineteen years. In March 2011 the station said farewell to it as it moved down the coast to the new Station 28A at Port St Johns.

The NSRI's photograph shows it at the station gate in its Sea Rescue livery: sandglow yellow above the waist, red below it, SEA RESCUE and the NSRI flag on the sides with STATION 19 on the doors, SEA RESCUE mirror-written on the bonnet for the rear-view mirrors ahead, a black bull bar with mesh headlamp guards and a winch, a roof rack carrying two spot lamps and the spare, and red steel wheels. The registry model reproduces that vehicle on the Defender 110 station wagon.

The side emblem was corrected at review to the NSRI flag: a navy-bordered white flag with a red cross and N S R I in the quadrants.
