The Straż Graniczna is Poland's border security agency, re-established in 1990 and operational from 16 May 1991 under the Ministry of the Interior. Its nine regional units include the Warmińsko-Mazurski unit at Kętrzyn, which holds the northern land border with Russia's Kaliningrad exclave — from the Lithuanian tripoint west to the Baltic, where the border cuts across the Vistula Spit (Mierzeja Wiślana) in the dunes and pine woods beyond the village of Piaski. That last section is sand track rather than road, and the unit works it with Land Rover Defenders.

It is a working vehicle rather than a marked patrol car: plain dark green with a body-colour roof and no lettering on the panels, black plastic wheel-arch flares, black chequer-plate protection on the wing tops, black steel wheels on mud tyres, a heavy black front bumper carrying an electric winch with a roller fairlead, a whip antenna on the bonnet, and a blue light bar over the windscreen whose white centre panel carries the service's name in green. The engine, the Guard's total Defender numbers and the vehicle's fate are not stated in the source.
