The record

The DefenderX project set out to drive and swim from London to New York in Land Rover Defenders: the route would cross Europe and Russia by road, then the Bering Strait, Alaska and Canada, with the sea crossings made by the vehicles themselves. Two Defender 110 station wagons, named Princess and The Mother Ship, were converted with bolt-on inflatable pontoons either side, an engine-driven X-drive propeller for propulsion afloat, 38-inch snow tyres for ice and tundra, external roll cages, roof racks with LED light bars, snorkels and yellow expedition livery with black bonnets, grilles and arches. The project's photograph shows one of them under way at sea on its pontoons. Whether the crossing was completed is not stated on the project's site.

The registry's model is a Defender 110 station wagon in trophy yellow with the black bonnet skin, grille and arches, an external cage, rack, LED bar and snorkel, and black pontoons either side that can be released, as the queue asks.
