The Australian Army's Series IIA 109s were bought under the Army's AMF specification from 1964 into 1971, and among the body codes in the fleet census is 6040A, the telecommunications repair shop — a signals workshop on wheels, with a hard rear body enclosing the benches and instruments needed to repair radios in the field. REMLR records a confirmed 1965 6040A vehicle, Army Registration Number 113-841, with a full hard top of ambulance-like form.
This record follows a different photograph, from the same source's section of unidentified workshop vehicles: a Series IIA 109 with a separate cab, a camouflaged box body behind it, front wings cut short and a bullbar. It represents the workshop layout rather than claiming to be 113-841, and the rear doors and vents of the model are a conservative reading of a body the photograph does not fully show.
Mechanically these were standard AMF-specification Series IIAs: the 2.25-litre petrol four with the Army's twin fan belts, assembled in Australia by Pressed Metal Corporation. Quantities of the 6040A body are not published.
