Sofia Police Defender

The Bulgarian police adopted the Land Rover Defender in the years around the country's accession to the European Union, and by 2009 they were a familiar sight in the capital. This one is a 110 hard top rather than a station wagon: the rear quarter panels are solid, the load space is for equipment, and the spare hangs on the rear door under the English-language POLICE that Bulgarian police vehicles carry alongside the Cyrillic ПОЛИЦИЯ on the flanks. The livery is white over the police force's dark green, with two blue beacons on the roof, and the registration CA 7993 AK is a Sofia plate.

The photograph, taken by Apostoloff in 2009 and categorised on Commons under police automobiles in Sofia, shows the vehicle from behind, so its generation cannot be read from the bonnet.
