The record
Livigno sits at 1,800 metres in a high valley of the Lombard Alps, reachable from Italy only over the Foscagno pass, and its municipal police — the Polizia Locale of the Comune di Livigno — spend half the year working in snow. A Defender 90 station wagon is the vehicle for that: short enough for the village streets, four-wheel-drive for the passes, and here fitted with a front guard against the accidents a winter road produces.
The livery is the standard of Italian municipal forces, white with a broad green band carrying POLIZIA LOCALE and the commune's name beneath, with blue beacons on the roof. The flat bonnet places the vehicle before the Puma-engined Defenders of 2007. The photograph, by the Lithuanian Wikipedia contributor Italas and released to the public domain, was uploaded in February 2009 and shows the car parked in snow outside the Al Portico duty-free supermarket.
