French Army Defender 110 Double Cab.

France's Defenders arrived in quantity from 2009, when the French military ordered some 300 Defender 110 Station Wagons for support roles at home and follow-on orders took the fleet to between six and seven hundred. They were supplied through Durisotti, the Sallaumines coachbuilder, whose badge sits below the ROVER lettering on the bonnet. The vast majority of those Durisotti conversions were five-door long-wheelbase Station Wagons.

The double cab is the exception. Bob Morrison, who has photographed European military Land Rovers since the 1980s, records this four-door pick-up as the only French Army D110 Double Cab he recollects ever photographing — and notes that it lacks the DURISOTTI marking usually found above the radiator grille. It was photographed on Braid Fell in Scotland during the airborne phase of JOINT WARRIOR 2013, the Anglo-French Combined Joint Expeditionary Force exercise.

It shares the fleet's mechanical specification: the post-2007 convex bonnet denoting the Ford Duratorq 'Puma' engine, in 2,402 cc or 2,199 cc form. The body carries a short windowed canvas cover over the rear load bed, protective cages over the lamps and underbody protection at the front.

No procurement figure, unit or registration for the double cab has been published, and the type is rare enough in French service that this record represents a single documented vehicle rather than a fleet.
