J. B. Howie (Dale)

J. B. Howie's Dale implements are known from the firm's own two-page leaflet of 1958 for the Bull-Angledozer and Snow-Plough. The dozer was aimed at builders, contractors, farmers and local councils who wanted a Land Rover to do light earthmoving and snow clearance without buying a tractor: the blade hung on brackets at the front of the chassis, was lifted by a single-acting ram from a hand pump beside the driver, and could be set straight or angled to throw spoil to either side; in winter the same brackets took a wider snow-plough blade. Rover listed it among its approved conversions in 1958. No other history of the company, its founder or how many units it sold has been traced.
