Futuristic yellow 'City Cab' taxi built by Rover Group on 1970s Land Rover 101 Forward Control chassis for the 1995 film Judge Dredd; 22 were made and the sole fully-fitted example is preserved at the British Motor Museum.

The record
For the 1995 Sylvester Stallone film Judge Dredd (not the 2012 reboot Dredd, which used no such vehicle), Land Rover's own designers styled the 'City Cab' taxi of Mega-City One, and Rover Group built the vehicles at Solihull. Each carried a huge sculpted fibreglass taxicab-yellow body with enclosed wheels and deeply recessed glazing over the chassis of a 1970s Land Rover 101-inch Forward Control military vehicle, powered by the 3.5-litre, 135 bhp Rover V8. The finished prop measured 4,790 mm long, 2,210 mm wide and 2,230 mm tall.
Twenty-two City Cabs were built for filming, but only one was given a complete interior for the film's inside and close-up shots; the other 21 carried the exterior body shells alone. That fully-fitted car survives in the permanent collection of the British Motor Museum at Gaydon (accession 2015-13-5), displayed among the museum's TV and film vehicles. The City Cab is a period example of Land Rover's willingness to put its engineering behind film work, prefiguring the later Tomb Raider and Bond Defender programmes.
